Costume Design
Rowan Leckie’s costume work combines artistic concepts with fashion to create three-dimensional, wearable forms. Developed during her four years of study at Edinburgh College of Art, this body of work culminated in her 2019 degree showcase.
The first designs shown are from her final-year project: a plant-grafted costume exploring themes of family inheritance. Built from sheer materials, the structure evokes fragility and playfulness while reflecting deeply personal narratives.
Other works include:
-
A Reimagining of Hitchcock’s The Birds — inspired by silhouettes of the late 1950s and early 1960s, these costumes use bright pastel wools and mohairs. The bird-nested aesthetic both pays homage to the film and heightens its unsettling tension.
-
Latex Rubber Experiment — a tactile exploration that used latex to collect and trap mould, producing skin-like textiles which challenge the boundaries of materiality and texture.
